Kalachandji, literally translated as "the beautiful moon-faced one," is worshipped as the Supreme Personality of Godhead by thousands of devotees.  It is in fact another name for Lord Krishna. Impeccable craftsmen constructed an elaborate temple for Him; famous artisans decorated it.  He is offered sumptuously prepared foods of all descriptions made from grains, milk products and fresh vegetables. His followers fill the temple with melodious prayers and the air is sweet with myriad varieties of richly fragrant incense.   Everyone, from the King to the street sweeper, visit Kalachandji, pay respects and obeisance.

কলকাতার পাথরের মন্দিরের খোঁজ করলে চোখের সামনে প্রথমে বিড়লা মন্দিরের ছবি ভেসে ওঠে।কলকাতার ইতিহাস খুঁজতে গেলে আধুনিক দক্ষিণ কলকাতার মাঝে নয় বরং উত্তর কলকাতার জীর্ন শরীরের ভাঁজে আষ্টে পৃষ্ঠে জড়িয়ে থাকা ইতিহাস আপনাকে বিস্মিত করবে।উত্তর কলকাতার অলি গলি তস্য গলির সর্পিল রাস্তার কোণে বিস্মৃত পাথরের মন্দির আজও দাঁড়িয়ে আছে।রামদুলাল সরকার স্ট্রিটে এরকমই একটি সুদৃশ্য পাথরের মন্দিরের দেখা পেলাম।স্থানীয়দের থেকে জানলাম মন্দিরটি কালাচাঁদ মন্দির নামে পরিচিত।অপূর্ব কারুকাজ খোদিত মন্দিরে কোন প্রতিষ্ঠা ফলকের দেখা পেলাম না।মন্দিরের পূজারীর থেকে জানলাম মন্দিরটি আনুমানিক একশ সাল পুরানো।মন্দিরের পাথরের কাজে রাজস্থানী শিল্পের ছোঁয়া। উত্তর কলকাতার ঐতিহ্য মন্ডিত নিস্তারিণী কালী মন্দিরের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা হেদুয়ার স্বর্গীয় "ঈশ্বর চন্দ্র নানের" পরিবারের এক শরিক এই কালাচাঁদ মন্দিরের নির্মাতা।
অসাধারণ এই পাথরের মন্দিরটি কলকাতার অন্যান্য হেরিটেজ সাইটের সঙ্গে অবশ্য দ্রষ্টব্যঃ।
