Not many may know of this temple in Mudichur. It has been kept away from the limelight despite its history, for reasons I know not. This is a fairly old temple which houses shrines to both Shiva (and, of course, Parvati) and Vishnu. You can also find shrines for Hanuman, Garuda, Vinayaka, Muruga, Navagrahas, Durga, Chandikeshwar, Bhairava and Chandra. The idols in the temple are made from Chandrakanta stone (Moonstone). Some people mistake this for just an Ambal temple. Please stand corrected now. There are multiple entrances to this temple, each one leading to a different shrine. The temple pond is very big and decently maintained. Hope the temple authorities can do something about the people throwing things inside the pond, or trying to feed the fish. This is not allowed even in a zoo, not sure how it is done in a temple.

The place, Mudichur, gets its name because of the happenings at this temple. The story goes that roughly 1300 years ago a Shaivite man and a Vaishnavite woman from the village fell in love and got married at this place through the grace of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The town came to be known as Manammuditha Nallur, which is now shortened as Mudichur. The temple is hence known to be a place where unmarried people come to pray with a view to getting married. Saint Ramanuja is said to have given an exposition here while on his way to Sriperumbudur.

The temple was damaged in the Manimangalam war between Narasimha Pallava and Pulakeshi II in AD 642. It lay neglected for a long time after that. Several centuries later, in about 1980, the local youth got together and cleared this brush-covered, snake-infested temple, restoring it to some of its former glory. The lamp post in the temple, opposite the Damodhara Perumal shrine, is said to be from the original days and is believed to be 1300 years old.

Very calm and nice place to visit along with the family. Just few minutes from tambaram and perungalathur railway station. You Wont believe it is situated in Chennai. Surrounded by greenery. It is the only temple in south India to have rudhraksha tree. A must place to visit.
