After the Brahma darshan, pilgrims often make a beeline to the adjacent Sri Krishna temple (associated with Vilawamangalam Swamiyar) in the north-west corner of the tank.
According to lore, Sage Vilwamangalam was the one who first got the vision of Lord Vishnu in the Anantha Sayee pose, reclining on the Anantha Nag, and who later installed the deity at the famous Padmanabhaswamy temple. He continued in Thiru Anantha Puram as the 'Pushpanjali Swamiyar', a title bestowed upon him by the Raja.
The sage was an avid Krishna bhakta, and it is believed that after his samadhi his mortal remains were buried and the Krishna statue was installed above that. Outside the shrine on the south-east corner there is a Radha-Krishna-Garuda prathista, and adjacent to that, a symbolic prathista of the Swamiyar.

Vilwamangalam Shri Krishna Swamy Temple is located near East Fort, at Kottakkakam, in Thiruvananthapuram. This temple enshrines Lord Krishna as the main deity. This temple also houses sub shrines for Lord Ganesh and Nagaraja. Locals believe that this place is the penance land of a great Brahmin saint called Vilwamangalam Swamiyar. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna and attained Samadhi at the place where the sanctum sanctorum is situated. The Ashtami Rohini Festival celebrated here amidst much pomp and splendor, attracts a large number of people from far and near. The main offerings at this shrine are Tulsi leaf garlands and butter.
