It was a cleanest looking village. You will feel like a cantonment area. It is proper tourist location. It is far from main road about 40 km. But it worth to come here as single live root bridge also here to explore. Here good restaurants are available for lunch. There is a bamboo bridge built as view point Bangaladesh from Mawlynnong village. It's good spot for pictures that costs you Rs.20 per person. Ample of Parking space available. Near by single live root bridge is there to explore the natural beauty. It's recommended to plan it while returning from Dawki river visit.

Mawlynnong is a village located in the East Khasi Hills district of the Indian state of Meghalaya. It has gained recognition as the "Cleanest Village in Asia" due to its pristine environment and well-maintained surroundings. Mawlynnong's cleanliness and eco-friendly practices have attracted tourists from around the world.

The village's commitment to cleanliness and sustainability is evident in its daily practices. The residents of Mawlynnong take great pride in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. Every morning, the villagers collectively clean their surroundings, including sweeping the streets, picking up litter, and maintaining their houses and gardens.

One of the remarkable features of Mawlynnong is its well-organized waste management system. Each household has a bamboo dustbin that is used for organic waste, which is later used as compost for agriculture. In addition, the village has designated spots for non-biodegradable waste, which is either recycled or sent to neighboring towns for proper disposal. This responsible waste management has played a significant role in keeping the village clean and pollution-free.

Another notable aspect of Mawlynnong is its emphasis on eco-tourism and sustainability. The village has implemented various eco-friendly initiatives, such as using bamboo dustbins instead of plastic ones, promoting rainwater harvesting, and planting trees to maintain a healthy environment. These practices have not only contributed to the cleanliness of the village but also fostered an atmosphere of environmental consciousness.

The efforts of the villagers and the local community have garnered international recognition, leading to Mawlynnong being named the "Cleanest Village in Asia" by various organizations and media outlets. This accolade has significantly boosted tourism in the region, with visitors coming to witness the village's cleanliness and learn from its sustainable practices.

Mawlynnong serves as an inspiring example of how a small community can work together to maintain cleanliness and sustainability. The village's success has motivated other communities in India and beyond to adopt similar practices and strive for a cleaner and greener environment.

Must try... though it's a little scary to walk on the narrow bamboo slider... but the view up there will compensate the risk...
