City College provides a friendly and stimulating environment for learning. On offer are a wide choice of undergraduate courses in Arts, Science and Commerce. At present, 14 subjects are taught at the Honours level. City College draws its academic strength from not only a very rich faculty, but also an excellent library, which received special praise from the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) peer team during its visit to our College. Seminars, workshops and projects further liven up and enrich the academic ambience.

The City College was first started as a High School (City School) on 6th January 1879. The Sadharan Brahmo Samaj was founded in 1878. Its leadership soon decided to work in the field of education. The school was elevated to a college in the year 1881. The Institution was founded by late Ananda Mohan Bose, M.A., Barrister-at-Law and the first Indian wrangler of Cambridge University. The college played an important part in Bengal renaissance.

In the year 1961 the various branches of the City College were converted to separate colleges under instructions of the University Grants Commission. While the original college retained the original name “City College”, the branches were renamed as separate colleges.

City College is a composite fully state government-aided public college, affiliated to the University of Calcutta. Established in 1881, it is one of the heritage institutions of Kolkata, and played a prominent role in the wake of the Bengal Renaissance of the nineteenth century. The college is located at 102/1, Raja Rammohan Roy Sarani (Amherst Street), Kolkata-700009. It shares premises with Rammohan College (morning college) and Anandamohan College (evening college). In the year 1961 the branches of City College emerged as separate colleges under instructions of the University Grants Commission. While the original college retained the original name “City College”, the branches were named as 1. Rammohan College, 2. Ananda Mohan College, 3. Umesh Chandra College, 4. City College of Commerce and Business Administration, 5. Sivanath Sastri College, 6. Heramba Chandra College, and 7. Prafulla Chandra College. Together they are referred to as City group of College (Kolkata).

This is the renowned City College of Kolkata, located at Maniktalla. More appropriately it's is located opposite to Ahmerstreet Police station.
Like other city colleges, the same building houses 3 different colleges in 3 shifts.
Rammohan College in the morning, City College during the day and Anadamohan College at night.

Apart from general education purposes, the college also houses various govt examinations.

I would also like to mention that, adjacent to the college, there is a property known as Rammohan Hall, which is a deserted place and perfect breeding ground for anti-social activities. I have also enclosed pictures of the same to bring to the notice of the authorities.
