During British rule, Bardhaman kings were the largest zamindars of Bengal. In 1955, when the government announced the decision to evict the zamindari system, the last king of Burdwan, Udaychand Mahtab Rajprasad, with "Mahtab Manzil", the palaces and palaces of the royal family were donated to the cause of public welfare. In those palaces and mahals, it is set up in Burdwan University, University Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Udaychand Mahila Mahavidyalay etc.
