Lakhi gate or Lakhi Darwaza is gateway of the famous Kaiser Bagh palace complex.
It was constructed by Wajid Ali Shah, last Nawab of Awadh (Oudh) in 1847-1850 with the cost of ₹ 1 lakh, which derives its name as "Lakhi Darwaza". Indo-Saracenic architecture, an architectural style mostly used by British architects in India in the later 19th century was followed here. For decoration Awadhi art was used.
During mutiny in 1857, which was the first war of Indian independence, the Kaiser Bagh was very important due to the political events. a significant damage in the area occurred during this period.
The gate is very beautiful and decorated with the awadh's royal symbol of fishes.
The surroundings ambience is very pleasant.
