Neelayadhakshi Temple in Nagapattinam is located at a distance of 65 Kms from Kumbakonnam and 27 Kms from Thiruvaarur. The name Neelayadhakshi is because of the eyes are like the blue ocean of Mercy. She is said to be a maiden, hence Lord Shiva who goes by the name Kayarohanar in this temple has his Nandhi guarding both his shrine and that of the Goddess. One eye of the Nandhi keeps a watch on the Lord’s Shrine while the other on the shrine of the Goddess. The name Kayarohanar as he had hugged sage Pundarika. Sundara Vidangar made of Ruby is consecrated in this temple. Adishesha has worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple. As a custom, the Lord goes for fishing on the Ayilam star in the tamil month of Avani (August – September) to honour his devotee Adibathar. Dead among the fisher men community when brought near the temple entrance are honoured with the flowers from the presiding Deity. Azhugini siddhar samadhi is in this temple. This ancient temple is said to be in existence from 6th century AD is a must visit place when on a pilgrimage to Nagapattinam. Timings 6am to 12 noon 4pm to 9pm

One of the Big, Nice and Neatly maintained temple in nagapattinam. Pradhosa Pooja is attended by many here. All navagraha lords poses in a single direction.
