Agatheeswarar Temple is an ancient temple in Agastheeswaram. This is where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi were worshipped by Siddhar Agathiyar after he was sent to South India by Lord Shiva.
The name of Agastheeswaram Taluk in Kanyakumari district is derived from this important temple.
In addition to Lord Agatheeswarar and Aram Valartha Amman, there is a separate shrine for Lord Vishnu with his divine consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi. There is a separate sanctum for Agathiyar also.
There are multiple interesting historical events related to this temple involving Chola and Pandiya kings.
We can feel the divine presence easily in this temple.
