Band Stand was an important landmark of the city at one point in time. Located at the Ridge, it was basically a promenade-like area where locals could take a casual stroll or meet their friends and families. With time, the entire Ridge area started serving the same purpose and Band Stand's exclusive importance diminished. Ridge soon became the most important landmark and Band Stand got replaced by a conically-shaped building which houses Ashiana and Goofa, two very popular restaurants in Shimla.
