This is one of the Heritage Buildings and a landmark of Kolkata. Built in British era, this Building was then owned by Hindusthan Co-operative and Insurance Co. headed by Late Nalini Ranjan Sarkar, a pioneer in indigenous insurance business during pre-independence.
The main entrance is on Central Avenue, just beside Chandni Chowk Metro Gate lands on a round shaped enclosure with a high dome-top roof with beautiful carvings testifying architecture marvel of that time.
A rich yet sober marble stone-cut statue of N.R.Sarkar is placed facing the Entrance, in between two Lifts, looks like guardian of Insurance Sector even at this Nationalised era.
Major portion/floors of the building houses various Departments of LIC of India- Eastern Zonal Office whose geographical area covers the state of West Bengal & North Eastern States.
Other than LIC-EZO, the building houses Regional Offices of LIC Housing Finance Ltd. (LIC-HFL), LIC-Nomura Mutual Funds, a Sub-Post Office, Co-operative Store & 3 ATMs {Axis Bank, Union/Corporation Bank & Bank of India} on Ground Floor.
The Zonal Library for LIC Employees is on mezzanine floor, accessible from N/W corner staircase (opp. E-Mall). Service Branch & Currency Chest of Corporation Bank (now Union Bank of India) is also on Ground floor. Parking space at backside courtyard is exclusively for LIC Employees of Zonal Office & adjacent Branches. No parking available for outsiders.
There's a branch (CBO- 19) on 1st floor & offices of Railway Insurance Co-op. (2nd fl.) & Hindusthan Insurance Emp. Co-op.(5th fl.).

Very old and huge office overall its good but employment opportunity is worst as these first are making huge profit but not giving employment to poors.
Lic is just a scam and nothing but good in comparison to private insurance.
