The history of Medical College, Kolkata marks the beginning of medical education in our country. It was established in the year 1835. Since then medical college has been progressing in every domain and is well recognized at the national and international level for excellence in medical education, research work and patient care.

Every year 250 undergraduate students join this institute to obtain their MBBS degree. The College also offers postgraduate and postdoctoral courses in most of the broad speciality and super speciality branches. Students of nursing and paramedical courses are also trained in this institute under a single umbrella.

In the present rapidly changing medical education scenario and health care delivery systems, along with the growth and development in information and communication technology, medical education has become more dynamic than ever before. In this dynamic environment our aim is to make our students competent, confident, self-reliant and lifelong learners. We lay emphasis on developing the right kind of attitude and human approach in treating the sick and needy. Special efforts are taken to see if the students have learnt the necessary skills to become competent physicians. Our alumni are our real ambassadors. Their success stories encourage us to strive for greater heights

Our goal has always been to provide the best facilities to the students and to prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow, so that when they graduate out of the institutions they are competent to handle the responsibilities of the medical profession.
