The present building was erected in 1890. The earlier Collectorate was situated opposite Lalbazar till 1756. The old Custom House was demolished to make way for the new Calcutta Collectorate The current address was previously known as 3, Chamock Place the G.P.O. being numbers 1 & 2. This three story building has beautiful cast iron ornamentation and design. The main gateway is very imposing. The arched entranceway opens into a central quadrangular courtyard. The building now mainly houses the office of the Commissioner, Presidency Division.

I have given 3 stars only for the ambience but it's not thei fault...the building stands there for a lot of years and there is a little scope for renovation..but they have tried their best to make the place user friendly....the staff is too supportive and kind...must go for any government work... domicile certificate is also provided for the residents of kolkata
