This is the only Chakma Buddhist temple in Kolkata and also the headquarter of Bodhicariya-Karuna Shishu Sadan. It operates as a residential monastic center, guesthouse for medical emergency seekers, shelter for temporary guests, residential school facilities and religious center.

Don’t be fooled by the rates that haters and anti-Buddhist sentimental people given for the place. This is a very very important place for entire Chakma community and Buddhist communities in the region. Despite having location nearby one of the biggest Islamic universities Aliah University, this Buddhist monastic based Bodhicariya center provides high quality education for thousands of children in that area. It also fulfills all the needs of Buddhist minority too.

Venerable Bimal Bhante, who is known as the marshal of education among the entire community community of India and Bangladesh established this center in 1980s. At that time, this site was a deserted cemetery area where people are scare to live nearby. But today, this place is one the most important Buddhist temples and educational centers in entire West Bengal.
