Once Lord Surya was astonished to see Lord Vishnu (Keshav) praying Lord Shiva here in Varanasi. Anxious Suryadev came here to watch the Puja. Afterwards Lord Keshav informed him greatness of Lord Shiva. So Lord Surya who is also known as Aditya prayed and praised Lord Shiva and received boons. So the temple is known by the names of two Gods, Keshav and Aditya. It is on the banks of most pious, sin washing river Ma Ganga.

Sri Kesava Aditya is one of the 12 Aditya Temples in Varnasi. Also as pert the History Vishnu Put his Foot in kasi first here so so its called Sri Aadikesav Vishnu temple.
