The Chausath Yogini Temple is accessible through steep steps. 60 of the 64 yoginis, or assistance goddesses, are idolised in the shrine. The goddess Kali is honoured in this temple. The ghat is about 950 metres from Kashi Vishwanath Temple and 5 kilometres from Varanasi Railway Station. Omkara Das Kashi Ashram is located nearby the ghat, and this ghat serves as a main pilgrimage site for bathing. On the new moon day of the Hindu month of Chaitra, an auspicious day when people take a refreshing dip in the Ganga (mostly Hindus visit the temple), Lahiri Mahasya's family home is located just 100 metres into the lanes. He served as Swami Yogananda's paramguru and Babaji's levitating disciple.

It is not very crowded, peaceful and beautiful. Best for boating and spending time with your friends and family. Chausatthi Mata Mandir is very close to this ghat. Maa Skand Mata Mandir is also nearby.

Amongst those numerous ghats in Varanasi, Chausathi Gath is a popular sacred site to visit. Chausathi derives from the term Chausath which means sixty-four. The reason behind the name is the temple, located near this popular tourist site in Varanasi, which is dedicated to 64 Hindu deities. Few ascending steps from Chausathi Ghat lead to this temple. Devotees take a holy dip in the water from this ghat. Whether or not you are a religious person, a visit to this famous tourist attraction in Varanasi is a must mainly because of its serene ambiance.
The origin of the development of this Ghat is factually dilemmatic as some of the scholars suggest, the ghat was first built by Digpatiya, The ruler of Bengal in 18th century, while others suggest it was built by Pratapaditya another king of Bengal in 16th century. Chausathhi Ghat, as the name suggests, means 64. The temple built over the steps of the ghat, enshrines 64 statues of Yoginis who are the lady mates of goddess Kali.
"Traditions Well Kept"
Traditionally this ghat represents the 64 yoginis (female mystics) of Hindu mythology who emerged from the primary goddess. The mystifying symbolic depiction of feminine power and its deep-rooted association with India's spiritual traditions that is lingering at the Chausatti Ghat is worth a study. This Ghat, on the banks of Ganges, has a temple dedicated to the yoginis. Renovated in the 17th Century, this is a major site of pilgrimage and many take a ritualistic dip in Ganga from here. With ceremonial ecstasy of colors, Holi, the color festival of India is celebrated here enthusiastically.
