At a distance of 18 Kms from Nampally Railway Station, Himayat Sagar Lake in the outskirts of the city lies parallel to Osman Sagar lake.
Named after Himayat Ali Khan, the youngest son of the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, it was constructed over Musi River in 1927. The Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs provide continuous water supply to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The storage capacity of the reservoir is about 3 TMC.
The grassy area adjoining the lake is an ideal picnic spot. The road atop the bund is popular for a good road for a drive. Cottages are also available in the tourist complex.
Himayat Sagar dam and Osman Sagar reservoirs provided continuous water supply to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad until recently. Due to population growth, they are not sufficient to meet the cities' water supply-demand.
The engineer at the time of construction was late Khaja Mohiuddin, son of Mohammed Hussein.
The descendent of the royal family of the Nizam, Himayat Ali Mirza, has recently joined the “save Osmansagar and Himayatsagar” movement as he believes that these reservoirs are iconic landmarks of Hyderabad and still act as a lifeline for lakhs of people of the old city.

Located in a feasibly rural area, this place unfortunately is closed at many occasions owing to the safety of the visitors.
Apart from seasons like rainy, when the water inflow as well as the water level is high, they donot allow visitors to go inside.
Otherwise, we are able to walk till the dam gates entry point. It's a long walk, not the best place for kids as it is a little but risky but good for teens and adults who want to have a glimpse of the water body.
Parking is limited, no such parking area, you just have to park on the road and walk the rest of the way. Hence, no parking fees.
Best time I'd suggest is at dusk or dawn when the sun is almost on the brink.
It's open for all, so no entry ticket as well.
