We came in expecting good food and good service based on the recommendation we'd received; disappointingly, our experience at J Hind was well below average at least on the food front. Quite honestly, we've eaten better for a fraction of the price at several chains in Chennai. The meal started well enough; the amuse-bouche was interesting and a good start, comprising mango jelly, watermelon juice and a light-as-air sponge made of palak topped what looked like tiny dabs of blueberry and mango compote. Our starters however were a very mixed bag tending towards average: a raasaa rasam that was blindingly (and unnecessarily) spicy, a good Himalayan Thukpa soup, a very underwhelming platter of assorted momos, and finally a much better plate of salt & pepper mushrooms + baby corn. Our main orders were forgotten to be collected, and once we got around to placing them, the kitchen was achingly slow to send us our main course. The one and only waiter on a Sunday evening, a Mr. Mandal - though friendly and well-meaning - struggled to keep up with orders from 5 tables including a big private dining party. 50 minutes after orders, our mains arrived: a fairly good quinoa bisi-bela served with masala sliced chips that had sadly not been spiced in any way, shape or form; a good broccoli and baby corn korma with Malabar parottas; and sundried tomato bread - the best thing all evening - with an okay-ish Maharashtrian stuffed tomato kut. Desserts were a continued mixed bag: a cardamom creme brulée that left no impression on us, and given our low expectations at this point, a surprisingly good tender coconut pudding. Overall, an air of neglect hung over the dining experience and J Hind is definitely not somewhere we will visit a second time. Our thanks to Mr Mandal who did his best service-wise despite being on his own all evening.

This restaurant is located inside Grand Chennai on the left side behind reception.

I went along with my wife where I ordered chef chaat course which includes PAANI-PURI and LIVE CHAAT prepared by chef at your table. It was delicious and hygienic ;-)

Moving to mains, we ordered AMRITSARI CHICKEN; it is served with 4 chicken tikka served with separate butter-chicken gravy. It was tasty and flavorful.

You can't go wrong with this place, it looks everything with this restaurant is delicious.

Grand Chennai GRT located in T. Nagar Chennai conducting Konkan Coast 6 Course Meal Food Festival in J Hind Restaurant till 31st December 2022 on both Lunch & Dinner.

It's a 6 Course Meal (Amuse Bouche, Live Drama, Soup, Starters, Main Course, Desserts) with 15 Dishes inspired by Indian West Coast cuisine.

Lunch: 12:30pm to 3pm
Dinner: 7pm to 11pm

Veg: 1800+Taxes per person
Non Veg: 2050+ Taxes per person

Amuse Bouche: Tender Coconut Water.

Live Drama: Aam ras ka puri with a smoky touch.

Kakka Erachi Soup:Ocean Clams soaked and infused with tomatoes & coconut flavored soup.

Fish Recheado: Goan style mackerel fry.

Kundhapur Ghee Roast: Stir Fried Chicken with clarified butter.

Yetti Karwar Fry: Semolina dusted deep fried prawns.

Bokrea Chops: Slow cooked luscious lamb chops.

Mini Appam with Kaadai Muttai Roast: Kerala style quail eggs with fermented rice pancakes.

King Prawn Balchao with Vade: Sweet, spicy & tangy flavored prawn curry with baby poori.

Korigassi with Akki Roti: Mangalorean style chicken curry with rice crisp.

Lamb Vindaloo: Goan style Lamb in vindaloo sauce with rice cake.

Bebinca: Traditional Goan rice dessert.

Chakka Pradhaman: Kerala style jackfruit dessert.

Bebinca: Layer cake of Indo-Portuguese cuisine.

Tender Coconut Ice-cream: Ice cream with lots of tender coconut chunks.

Overall, It's a nice experience. It takes around 1.5hrs to complete the entire course. Missing of palate cleanser was little disappointing, rest all dishes were very good, tasty with authentic flavours.
