Regarded as a champion of human freedom, she was an ardent supporter of both Irish and Indian self-rule. She was a prolific author with over three hundred books and pamphlets to her credit. As an educationist, her contributions included being one of the founders of the Banaras Hindu University.

Just opposite to that is a beautiful beach with hardly any croud even on a weekend. Other areas of Marina beach are much more crowded.

Dr. Annie Besant was born on 1 October 1847 in Clapham, London, UK. and died on 20 September 1933.
She was a British Socialist, Theosophist, women's rights activist, writer, orator, educationist, and philanthropist. She has created a movement called Indian Independence Movement.
I heard that she was lived and died in Chennai Adyar, to honour and remember her memories Government has Named that portion of Adyar as Besant Nagar.
