If you wanna feel like an aesthetic atmosphere while you are going out and planning to stay for a few days this is the best option for you. This is an old building maintaining the same architecture without any change. The rooms, doors, switches everything looks at the palatial period. The only change you find will be the A/c and bathroom fittings. They do give the property for shooting and inmates can catch without disturbing them. This one is near to chepauk stadium and so it is easy for the people to take this as an option to stay if there are any games. The accessibility is a mess, this is inside a narrow road but they do have parking facilities. Food won't be available but you can find a lot of eateries like Ratna cafe outside.

Nice atmosphere, a bit strange. It's an old palace, rooms with very high ceilings and not very comfortable, sometimes a bit dilapidated, old furniture... And yet with a lot of charm, lots of inner courtyards, lots of outside stairs, a real labyrinth, lots of plants and trees, a big terrace. Very interesting prices. Well situated and in a quiet street. I recommend it.

We had a bad experience in this lodge recently while visiting Chennai with a group of 7 friends.
It is a pleasant place with an antique feeling. We booked two normal rooms, for one of which we had to use common bathroom as there was no attached bathroom, but as the rate was cheap, the rooms were okay for the price.
However one of the caretaker was shockingly rude after we checked-in to the hotel. His problem was that we talked louder than he expected us to. He was overly judgemental about us, talked in a threatening tone as if we came there to do some anti-social activities, and boasted about how they were only open to foreigners till recently. This incident affected the overall experience of stay at broadlands.
However another caretaker to whom we complained about this experience next day during checkout was decent, and he had apologized for this bad experience.
