After years of whizzing past this elegant monument every time I was in Jaipur. This time I made time to get out of the car and check it out.
In the centre of this roundabout is the statue of the founder of Jaipur, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II.
Since he was an ardent believer and patron of Hindu astrology, his statue shows him holding an astrological diagram in one hand.
Entrance is free, you just have to be careful to cross the road with the ever flowing traffic in order to reach the monument.

I had the chance to visit Statue Circle with my parents and sister, way back in 2007, during our multi-city North India trip.
Situated in the middle of a busy intersecting road of the Pink City, Statue Circle is reminiscent of the rich history of Jaipur. The name, of course, coming from the life-size white marble statue of the man who founded the city in 1727 - Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II.
The statue illustrates the king holding an astronomical diagram, possibly capturing him in one of his thoughtful moments, as he went about planning and constructing 5 Jantar Mantras across the country. Of course, he will always be remembered most by every Indian - because of Jaipur. And by every Bengali - because he gave the chance to Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, all the way from Naihati in Bengal, to be its chief architect and city planner.
Although it was quite some time back, I do remember also visiting some of the other tourist attractions which are a stone's throw away from the Statue Circle - Birla Temple, Galtaji Temple, Govind Dev Ji Temple, Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple to name a few. For those who are looking to pick up inexpensive souvenirs, you have the Jauhari Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar and Nehru Bazaar nearby. Overall, a nice place to chill, and a must visit if you are a fan of Jaipur, and the man who made this city possible!
