Recently I visited an ancient pilgrimage place in Dholpur city of Rajasthan which is Machkund. Machkund is a historical and holy place in Dholpur. I never heard anything about Machkund until one of my friends told me and advised me to visit the place once. He described Machkund as beautiful, peaceful, and a hidden gem of a place to visit in Dholpur.

Machkund is famously known as the nephew of all pilgrimage places in India. It is also popularly called Teerthraj Machkund. Teerthraj means king of all pilgrimage places. There is a big and peaceful kund/ pond/ lake surrounded by a series of temples of different dates. On my visit to Machkund in Dholpur, I found that it is an atmospheric site that commands a scenic view.History of Pilgrimage Site Machkund Dholpur
It is believed that the place is named after Raja Machchh. Raja Machchh is the 24th king of the Suryavanshi Dynasty and he is said to have reigned nineteen generations before Lord Ram. There is a very interesting story behind the inception of Teerthraj Machkund in Dholpur. According to legend, way back in the mythological period, the demon called Kaal Yamaan while pursuing Lord Krishna unknowingly woke up the Raja Machchh who was sleeping at this place. For disturbing his sleep, Raja Machchh burnt the demon Kaal Yamaan at this exact place. Due to the divine gift from the Lord, the king has the power to destroy any person.

Teerthraj Machkund is an ancient holy establishment that is believed to be constructed many years ago. It is significantly surrounded by small to medium size temples built from BC 775 to BC 915. These temples were constructed by numerous kings who ruled over this place during that phase of time. This lake is reckoned sacred by Hinduism and it is a firm belief that tanks are very pious for people taking a plunge in its water

तीर्थोंं की नानी देवयानी के बारे में आपने सुना होगा, लेकिन आज हम आपको बता रहे है तीर्थों के भांजे के बारे में। राजस्थान के धौलपुर जिले में स्थित मचकुंड को तीर्थों का भांजा कहा जाता है।

मान्यता है कि मचकुंड में स्थान के बाद ही चार धाम की यात्रा पूरी होती है। इस मेले में राजस्थान u200bके विभिन्न जिलों के लोगों के साथ—साथ ग्वालियर, मुरेना, अयोध्या, वृन्दावन, मथुरा एवं अन्य स्थानों से भी श्रद्धालु आते है। यहां भी साधु संत शाही स्नान करते है और उसके बाद मेले का आगाज होता है। यह मेला गणेश चतुर्थी के अगले दिन ऋषि पंचमी और छठ को आयोजित होता है। इस दौरान यहां बड़ी संख्या में साधु-संत बैंड-बाजों के साथ पहुंचते है। मान्यता है कि मचकुंड सरोवर में देवछठ वाले दिन स्नान करने वालों को पुण्य लाभ मिलता है।

मचकुंड मेले की मान्यता है कि देवासुर संग्राम के बाद जब राक्षस कालयवन के अत्याचार बढ़ने लगे। सभी परेशान थे, तब भगवान श्री कृष्ण ने कालयवन को युद्ध के लिए ललकारा और उससे युद्ध किया। इस युद्ध में लीलाधर को भी हार का मुह देखना पड़ा, तब लीलाधर ने छल से मचकुंड महाराज के जरिए कालयवन का वध कराया था, जिसके बाद कालयवन के अत्याचारों से पीड़ित ब्रजवासियो में खुशी कि लहर दोड़ गई। इसके बाद से ही आज तक मचकुंड महाराज की तपोभूमि देवछठ के मौके स्नान पर्व आयोजित होता है।
