This magnificent temple made of gold was established in 1864 and gained its final stage in 1895. It is drenched in the essence of architecture. As it has a lot of gold plated wooden figures of people related to Jain religion, a part of it is known as the ‘Swarna Nagri’ or ‘City of Gold’.

Moreover it has a chamber where the Ayodhya’s model is made up using 1000 kg of gold. It was established by the Soni family of Ajmer and still owned by them. The temple has changed a lot of names by the passage of time. Initially known as ‘Siddhkoot Chaityalaya’ change to ‘Red Temple’ as it was carved out of red sandstone and this is one of the best places to visit in Rajasthan in 3 days.

Some people also called it ‘Nasiyan of Seth Moolchand Soni’ as it was the name of the founder. Later when the temple was crowned with the name city of gold, the name changed to ‘Sone ka Mandir’ or ‘Soni Mandir’ because of the golden framework as well as the owner’s name.

The Ajmer Jain temple, also known as Soniji Ki Nasiyan, is an architecturally rich Jain temple. It was built in the late nineteenth century. The main chamber, known as the Swarna Nagari "City of Gold", has several gold-plated wooden figures, depicting several figures in the Jain religion. This golden chamber of the temple uses 1000 kg of gold to carve out depiction of Ayodhya.
Ajmer's main attraction is - for the Jainas - the prominently situated Nasiayan Digambara Temple, or rather the two-storied Svarana Nagara Hall behind the temple, better known as the Museum. Both the temple and the museum were built and are still owned by the Soni family of Ajmer.

Not much to see in Ajmer but a visit to this Jain temple is absolutely worth a short stop. The psychedelic Golden reconstruction of the saint saga is spectacular and unique. You’ll be able to visit this place with only a few other tourists and for a symbolic entrance fee. There are explanations in English.
