The second lane of Ajni Railway Colony houses one of the oldest structures still standing in Nagpur. Out of all of the cottages & bungalows in the colony, this Bungalow Number E139 is the oldest surviving structure from the times of Raj. It is probably 150+ years old, considering the Railway History of Nagpur. This bungalow used to house the Top Railway officials of that time mainly the ‘Bada Sahebs’ of the Bengal Nagpur Railways (BNR). The bungalow is in an immaculate condition with no signs of major damage. In all these years, only the roof which used to be of red stone plates has been changed to Aluminium sheets, rest is all original. Notice the typical British architecture of the walls, Windows & doors. The gate seems to be of the same age of the house whereas the small garage has been constructed in the recent times.
After all the drama of the construction of Ajni Multi Modal Hub, I request everyone to share the word on saving Ajni Vann & demanding a permanent stay on the construction of the hub. The conservation of these century old trees & the heritage structures located here is the least we can do to have sustainable development in Nagpur. #SaveAjniVann
