Ramleela is the re-enactment of the life of Lord Rama through the epic of Ramayana. It is a dramatic re-telling of the folktale, sometimes as a play and other times as a musical. Ravan Dahan or Lanka Dahan are central themes in Ramleelas and they are executed towards the end of the drama, usually, on a massive scale. Migrants from the northern Indian states have brought the performances to Mumbai centuries if not decades ago, as they missed their 500+ year-old practice when they moved for better economic opportunities.
