Center for Research in Nanotechnology and Science (CRNTS) is an indeciplinary department doing research in Nano material, nano science and technology. CRNTS is a virtual department using the advanced facilities of SAIF Soficiated Analysis Instrument Facility . But have an office at ground floor. CRNTS combined to SAIF and using all advanced charecterisation Facilities for nano materials especially HRSEM, High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM, 300kV) and TEM, Raman Mapping and Raman Spectrum analyser, Uv-visible spectroscopy, XRD, High Resolution Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer( 3 equipmenta each having different specification)Thermal analysis system ( TAS), CHNSO elementary analyser, Electron Spin Resonanace Spectrometer (ESR), FTIR imaging system (FTIR-IMG), High Resolution Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer ( GC-HRMS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonanace Spectrometer (NMR) And NMR 600 MHz,Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer (TOF, SIMS), Cryo FEG Scanning Electron Microscopy ( Cryo FEG SEM), Four Dimension X Ray Microscopy , GC-GC-TOF-MS etc.are available in this center. Some of them are Central Facility. For getting admission for PhD in CRNTS one should have a Top score in GATE or top JRF NET rank students but this is just and application criteria to apply for it. In addition with this one should pass a department written test, three levels of interview. Students must have two guides from two departments of IIT Bombay (science or engineering Facultys) and work should be so in interdeciplinary in nature. There are Project Staff category also but they also have to clear department entrance test, Three levels of interview. But the project student's Faculty must have plotted a project in this department while applying the application and he or she should select that project and under project staff category. 5 - 6 years will take normally. In rare case exceptional students can complete within 4 year also depends upon the faculty under he or she is doing PhD. There is no bachelor degree or master degree offering from this department direct. But other department Masters students can conduct their Research project in this department through guide.
