Developing and maintaining a loving, committed marriage are the goals of the coauthors of The rudraksh marriage Garden. The book is based on a curriculum of the same name that the authors developed for community members, as part of their responsibilities of working extension services for the University of Arkansas. Likewise, the book is intended for a general audience, although family educators, clinicians, and other family oriented professionals may find it useful. Throughout the book, marriage is discussed through the metaphor of gardening. While using a metaphor can sometimes lose understanding of the intended meaning, Goddard and Marshall take great lengths to explicitly explain the metaphor throughout the text. This helps readers to understand the frequent use of the metaphor and how it may apply directly to their mar- riage. Additionally, the authors frequently use personal stories throughout the book to illustrate examples of the topic being addressed. Both of these methods enable readers to think about their own relationship in a mean- ingful and useful way. The book has six principles that are important for a healthy and happy marriage: commitment, grow, nurture, understand, solve, and serve.
