A Hindu temple, or Devasthana or mandir or koil or kovil in Indian languages, is a house, seat and body of divinity for Hindus. It is a structure designed to bring human beings and gods together through worship, sacrifice, and devotion.This is a Goddess temple. It also has Lord Maha Deva or Shiva. It also has Lord Ayyappa and goddess BhadraKali. Devi is the supreme being in the Shakta tradition of Hinduism; in the Smarta tradition, she is one of the five primary forms of Brahman that is revered. In other Hindu traditions, Devi embodies the active energy and power of Deva, and they always appear together complementing each other. Devi, also known as Mahadevi or 'Great Goddess', is an all-embracing Mother Goddess first worshipped in India in Prehistoric times.Sakti may also be used more generically to reference any female Hindu goddess, especially Parvati, Lakshmi, and Sarasvati. Devi is most often manifested as the fearsome female warriors Durga and Kali, both of whom famously killed a number of terrible demons in Hindu mythology. For many Hindus, however, Devi's greatest strength is that she embodies all aspects of womanhood. In the vast pantheon, she is in the top tier, as powerful as the male gods Vishnu and Shiva. Mother goddess of India and local protector for innumerable villages, she can be quiet and nurturing. But she is also a cosmic force, addressing the creation and destruction of worlds. On occasion she is voluptuous and alluring — a playful temptress, a passionate lover. Before exams, Hindu pupils pray to her, incarnated as Sarasvati, the goddess of music and learning. Devi blesses her devotees with fortune and success.

Vadakkan Koyikkal temple a famous devi temple or bhagavathi temple near Kayamkulam, situated in Puthiyavila village.Sree Parvathy Devi is mainly worshiped in the temple.The other main idols of temple are lord Shiva, Bhadrakaali and Sree dharma Shastav. Idols of Naga devada, Khandakarna, Yekshi, Yogishwara and brhma rekshas are also worshiped in temple.The main speciality of Vadakkan Koyikkal temple is that the sreekovil or main temple is two stories. Sree Parvathy the main idol is placed in ground floor and Mahadeva ( Shiva ) is placed on 1st floor.Festivals celebrated in the Vadakkan Koyikkal Devi Temple Puthiyavila are Kumbha Bharani and Navaha Yekngam. Kumbha Bharani is the main festival of the temple. It is celebrated on the Bharani day of the Malayalam calendar month Kumbham. Devotees believe that it is the birthday of Vadakkan Koyikkal Devi. The 10-day festival is celebrated with great zest. Kettukazhcha is celebrated on 9th and 10th day.
Navaha Yekngam is another 9-day festival celebrated in the Vadakkan Koyikkal Devi Temple. The 9-day festival is celebrated during April – May. During these nine days, religious ceremonies are conducted in the temple. On all nine days, Annadana is also performed.
