A hindu religious temple with a simple yet traditional Nalukettu structured building having a total of three deities. The main diety is an incarnation of goddess badhra kali known as Vallikeezhu Devi. The two other diety are Lord Shiva and goddess Yakshi Amma. The temple is facing towards the east and has entrance in both the east and the west. The national highway is located on the west which makes the entrance to the temple easy.
There are two main festive season apart from the regular temple festivals that is the Meenabharani and Shakthikulangara temple festival.
The former is depicting the malayalam calendar month Meenam which is considered a special occasion month of the Badhra Kali which happens usually between mid March and April begining. There will be Ten Days of cheerful and artistic programs like kathakali, katchery, ganamela, classical dance, stage acting and other traditional programs. Its the final day that adds more colour to the festivals through the procession called Aaratte or kettukazcha where the temple is covered with lamps and the deities are given special rituals. The streets are filled with Kids and ladies dressed in traditional sarees carrying lamps in their hands as offering to the goddess. Accompanying them would be the Kerala tradition music (Chendamelam), Elephants and one other rare ceremonial structure of temple cars known as Kuthira (Horse). The latter is a man made wooden structure which goes upto 70 feet tall and 16 feet width which is carried in shoulders of the devotees which usually contains 50 to 60 people on an average. Their movement is something of a bliss in visual and the energy through the devotees while carrying the Kuthira is something extra ordinary.
Likewise the Shakthikulangara temple festival is another major festival which usually takes place between end of January and mid of February. This is a much bigger league which involves all the before said festive items but the boost would be the massive numbers, be it the Temple cart, Elephants,Chendamelam and the crowd. Another astonishing part is for the festival procession to happen the National Highway is blocked and re routed. So if you want to be a part of this be there before noon coz that's when the road starts to be blocked.
Hope this would help you out.So join the festival's and have a life time experience.
