Lourde Mata EMHSS is established in the years 1969-1974 with the auspices of then Diocese of kollam Bishop. Our school is situated in the village of Kovilthottam. Kovilthottam village is unique in many ways. It is a narrow strip of land, with the Arabian Sea on one side (west) and a national water way, or canal on the other (east). The canal itself ran north to south and was the main water way connecting the trading towns of Kollam with Alleppey, Kottayam and Cochin. The soil on this strip of land is like Salt & Pepper with sparkling bits of titanium and elements like thorium,zirconium etc. We have many fond memories of our school like, our own school bus 'PATTA VANDI', 'Gopalakrishnan Bus', 'MKK Travels', Cruising tourists from around the world( through IWA canal infront of our school), loving and caring Teachers, School Anniversaries, and of course...our playground, Sister's convent and Convent Church.......
Easy to reach from national highway 66. The school is almost 1 kilometres From the highway and it stands in front of the canal which is connecting the Alappuzha district and kollam district. It's the water highway that people used earlier, but now nobody is using it for transportation.
The school Parking space is quite impressive . We can park almost more than 10 cars in the school compound. The school provides bus service for the students who need the facility. But, the students of higher secondary don't have bus service. They have to travel by their own convenience. Students are allowed to come in cycle to the school.
Students who come by transport bus can take an auto from sankaramangalam or can reach the school by walking. Walking is an exercise for maintaining good health. So, students can start walking with friends or by single...... One of the beautiness of the school is that, it stands Near the church. The kovilthottam church is famous from the 19th century. The students can go to the church and the back side of the church to get relaxed from the study pressure.... And, they can sit beside the cemetery and walk to the beach. The beach lies towards the south of the church. There is also a LP school near the church and opposite to the higher secondary school.
