This is Maddu Beesuva Kallu which means Gun Powder Grinder. It is located on the left of the fort entrance after the Banashankari temple. Once you enter the fort turn left and walk like 200m there is the temple and past temple is this structure. There are four stones at four corners similar idea to what we used to have to grind grains to make flour. These were used to grind the gun powder for the cannons and the rockets devised by Tipu Sultan. The stones were powered by the animals which would rotate them in a circular motion. The grinders have teeth to break the lumps in gun powder to make it fine so it can be bunt more efficiently with less oxygen inside the cannon chamber.
