No more the Parsi restaurant. The place is south non veg hotel serving breakfast and lunch . Mostly keralaish. food was decently ok for a quick lunch and inexpensive. Service is a bit tad slow but unfortunately this is the only restaurant on this street as ente Keralam, hatti kaapi, kara (relocated), up till grill house are either permanently or temporarily closed!! The next best option for lunch on this street are two small roadside shops. So this hotel is good enough and yes I remembered now there is a smaller Darshni right below this. The best(actually worst) part is all other darshinis in the vicinity including adigas are closed.

The omelette which they serve is very good. Rest of the items are iffy iffy..I mean you may like if you have a taste for Parsi cuisine...

While Parsi cuisine is quiet famous in India, especially in Mumbai, I haven't got a chance to try Parsi food of all my trips to Mumbai. So when a friend suggested that there is a restaurant serving Parsi cuisine, very close to my office in MG road, I was too curious to try that out.

My Way Little Dinette is located in the busy crossroads of Dickenson Road junction, a cosy little dinette with 2 levels serving authentic Parsi cuisine. Overall the place is fuss free, clean with a neat atmosphere, nothing shouts out loud (except for the deep purple tables). This sets the mood to focus on the food and not to get distracted by any gaudy decor.

It was a quick lunch outing, so we did not waste much time and got right into ordering our starters and mains. Off course we were helped by the friendly wait staff on what we should order to experience authentic Parsi experience.

We ordered some Akuri Pattice, Mutton Kheema and Chicken Cutlets, and then the recommended mains.

The starters arrived rather quickly, we began savoring them. The Akuri Pattice is usually called the Parsi version of scotch eggs. Flavored potato croquettes with a filling of a Parsi style egg burji. It was yumm, and next time I wouldn't want to agree to share my Akuri Pattice. The Chicken cutlets were decent, uniquely flavored, the Kheema was divine especially with the fluffy hot pav that it was served with.

All the starter portions were decent, not too little, and not too much. The flavors were mild, and were gone is 60 seconds. Thanks to the super-efficient service, we needed more starters very quickly and we had to call for help.

I have heard a lot about this Parsi fish dish called Patra ni Machhi, which is essentially fish (most often Pomfret or Surmai) stuffed heavily with green coconut chutney and wrapped in a banana leaf and steam cooked.

I inquired if the same was available and they pointed me to that on the menu. After a quick checkpoint on who is going to share this dish with me (though hailing from coastal India, I am not a big fan of fish) and we ordered.

A few minutes went in anticipation of the Patra ni Machhi, and the mains had arrived by then, as always quick service.

We had ordered Dahi Bhindi with Roti, Veg Dhansak with Brown Rice, and Chicken Pulav with Dal.

Being a non-vegetarian, I must admit that the Dahi Bhindi was more interesting and tastier than the Chicken Pulav. It so became that we had to order an additional portion (rather soon) of this yummy dahi goodness with ladies fingers cooked to perfection. I could relate this Parsi cousin to be the perfect blend between the More Curry of Kerala, More Kozambu of Tamil Nadu, and Majjige Huli of Karnataka. The tangy dahi goodness was wonderfully cut by the sharp taste of bhindi. The consistency was a little thicker and I almost licked the bowl, almost.

Before this review of My Way Little Dinette turns out to become a review of Dahi Bhindi, I will quickly mention the other two mains that I sampled. The Chicken pulav was flavorsome, mildly sweet because of the perfectly caramelized onions. The accompanied Dal by itself was good to have with steamed rice, did very little to elevate the pulav. The Veg Dhansak was again a nice addition but failed to impress my palate as compared to the Dahi Bhindi.

The Patra ni Machhi did arrive while I was in Dahi Bhindi heaven. It was nicely and neatly wrapped in Banana leaf and steamed wonderfully. To my surprise a little stronger flavor and it tasted wonderful, but I was a little let down (a tiny bit) by the fish, which was not very fresh or maybe the fish flavor was a little too stronger for my taste.

Easy on the pocket, My Way Little Dinette is a must visit on everybody's list, not just for their Dahi Bhindi

There is something that I learnt about Parsi food at the My Way Little Dinette, it’s a hearty home style cooking, very subtle flavors but it does hit your heart before hitting your tummy, thank you My Way Little Dinette for showing me a little bit of Parsi Heaven.
