“The Mythe” is a derivation of the Old English place-name “gemythe” which indicates the confluence of two streams. The estate originally included extensive grounds, consisting of apple, peach and plum orchards, deodars, private tennis courts and a bank of stores/ staff quarters planned around a ‘Tudorbethan’ style bungalow.

Sir Edward John Buck mentions “The Mythe” among his recollections of Simla in 1862, which would be published later as the definitive record of the town’s history and character, “Simla, Past and Present”.

Mulk Raj Anand is believed to have resided here briefly. His experiences here as a tutor to several young princes provided the background for the novel “The Private Life of an Indian Prince”.

The historic construction is mostly along the traditional ‘dhajji’ technique (timber framed structure with infill of either stone, brick or ‘wattle and daub’). The bungalow, orchard and grounds are currently under various stages of restoration and revival.
