The Jama Masjid was built as a part of Shah Jahan's new capital in Delhi, Shahjahanabad. At the time of its construction, it was the largest mosque in the Indian subcontinent. Shah Jahan claimed that the mosque was modelled after the Jama Masjid of Fatehpur Sikri, and this is reflected in the design of many exterior features, such as the facade and courtyard. However, the interior of the mosque more closely resembles the Jama Masjid in Agra.The mosque predominantly uses red sandstone, and is set apart from its predecessors by a more extensive usage of white marble. Black marble also features as a decorative element.Arabic and Persian calligraphic pieces are found on various surfaces of the structure, whose content ranges from religious to panegyric.

Beautifully built excellent view of old Delhi and markets look for miles on a clear day. We spent quite a bit of time here to be able to experience the size of it and the capacity of it. Stone work is beautiful are doing work on it. The folk in charge were very helpful provided us with gowns to wear to enter too. Such a lovely place to be able to see. We went at 9am in the morning when a little cooler. ????????????????

Best to visit in the evening and that too in winters. A real religious place with utmost divinity but everyone regardless of religion can come and visit the place.

The interior of the mosque is equally mesmerizing, with its high ceilings adorned with delicate Islamic calligraphy, and intricately designed arches that add to its grandeur. The view from the top of the tower is breathtaking and provides an unobstructed view of the cityscape.

The mosque itself is beautiful, one of the main attractions of Old Delhi. Good place to learn about religion, history, culture.

All in all, Jama Masjid is a must visit for anyone seeking beauty, peace and spiritual inspiration. It is a true masterpiece of Islamic architecture and a testament to the rich cultural heritage of India. I highly recommend visiting this mosque and immersing yourself in its serene atmosphere.

You can also relish food and sweets from the restaurants opposite the mosque which are famous for their taste.
