The reviews of this temple, which is situated within the Sri Kalahasti temple got me extremely excited. I've never before heard of a temple where the main idol is situated so deep below ground level. As many reviewers have already said, the Lord Vinayaka idol can be seen at a depth of roughly 40' below ground level.

The entry is VERY tough. A small rectangular hole allows people to enter the temple. However, this hole is only around 3' in height and probably the same width, too. Hence, even if one tries to bend forward and enter, it is virtually impossible unless of course it's being attempted by a small child. Most average sized adults will have to initially crawl through to get to the steep and narrow granite steps that lead to the idol below.

The steps (around 10-12) are quite high and extremely narrow. So narrow that the railings that protect the devotees from falling down brush against the body. There is enough space only for about 5-6 devotees at a time once they reach the bottom. Hence entry is stopped briefly until the devotees downstairs have completed their darshan and have successfully come out.

It can get very stuffy down there as there's very little ventilation. However, since the entry is restricted to very few people at a time, it is not unbearable.

It's an amazing feeling to see the idol so far below the ground. It's dangerous, but exciting and highly satisfactory. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's not at all suitable for differently-abled and aged people although we did witness a senior couple successfully complete their darshan.

பாதாள கணபதி சன்னதி (Pathaala Ganapathi) ????

It's very old temple and the historical story behind this Sannathy and Agathiyar is mesmerized.

We have stand in queue and get dharsan.

At one time, only 8 to 10 people can enter inside the Sannathy.

We have to bend down and get into the Sannathy. We very deep steps will be there for around 20 to 30 feet down.

We need to get down via steps carefully and get the Swamy dharsan.

It is not advisable for Old aged and any leg pain related people.

First we can directly visit the Pathaala Ganapathi and then continue with the Raagu-Kethu Pooja and Srikalahasthi Swamy Dharsan.
