Anup talao (peerless pond) is an ornamental pool in front of the Khawabgah built in 1576.
This square red sandstone masonary tank has a beautiful island platform at the centre connected by four stone bridges to the sides of the tank.
At the central platform known as Tansen Chabutra, it is said that Tansen, one of the Navratnas of the Mughal court, sang his classical ragas.
It was once filled with coins of gold, silver, copper, & the emperor distributed the wealth

The Tansen chabutra is a sandstone island platform in the middle of an artificial tank connected by 4 bridges to the 4 sides of the tank. Said to be the very place where Navratna in Emperor Akbar's Court Mian Tansen performed many of his famous songs like raag malhar... It is said that the talao was filled with gold and silver coins by Akbar who would donate these later. Magical place.

Anup talao is the second most viewable piece in this complex. A sandstone island seated in the middle of a well connected by four causeways. Must have taken a flight of fancy to design this place and to use it to hold the Tansens music conventions
