Stunning place, definitely worthy your visit. Please expect crowds and long time standing in lines. You will need to wear long trousers, no shoes, and you can’t carry cameras and phones.
There is no access between 13:00 and 16:00. You can gain entry through either of four towers. Architecture and sculptures are unique and unforgettable. Look also for secondary gates located outside of main towers, they are beautiful and very interesting in their own right.
The temple complex looks breathtaking from afar too. Try to get to any of the hilltops in Madurai - views from there can amaze you!!

Their are 4 entrances to the temple. The East one is the main entrance. The majestic gates are crafted with one of the finest architecture ever to be seen. Very astonishing view at sunset time. Eco friendly restrooms available. Baby feeding rooms separately available too. A very beautiful temple and very important in Hinduism

World famous temple at the heart of Madurai city. A quiet place of worship with many historical importance. People other than Hindus are allowed up to the pool. Mobile phones and other electronics are not allowed. The pool is a quiet place for introspection and meditation. Thirukkural was said to be performed for the first time here. A must visit place for any tourist.
