Dravidian architecture dedicated to shiva. the presiding deity is revered in the 7th century. shiva in the guise of Nagaraja, the serpent king. there are many inscriptions associated with the temple indicating contributions from cholas , Thanjavur nayaks and tanjore maratha kingdoms . Nageshwar, pralayamkaathanathar and periyanayagi being most prominent shrines . great marvel of chola architecture building technology and astronomy temple is designed in such a way that during first there days of Tamil month chithirai(April to may) the ray of sun falls directly in the base of presiding deity in sanctum

Brihan Nayaki Samedha Sri Nageshwar Temple is located in the heart of Kumbakonam and which was built by Chola King Aadithya Chola during 9th Century and later developed by Thanjavur Nayak and Krishna Deva Raya. It is built in the design of a Chariot. A must to visit temple.
