For sure one of the must see places in Chennai. Don't understand my review wrong, you have to go there. Just be prepared, first you will get surrounded by begging women with children and if you will give them any money like i did this will encourage them and others to bother you more, so do not react, do not speak, just move forward. Then you have to pay 100 rupees each for leaving the shoes in safe place and suddenly you will get the guide. Guide is great but be sure you will agree the fee with him before you start. We didn't, he asked for money for the temple and suggested 20,40 or 60 dollars! When I gave him 500 rupees he asked my wife "and what about you mam?" ok we double it but we don't know this was passed on the most needed or went to his pocket. Than on the end of 20min guiding he asked for a tip, sure no problem i said and gave him another 500 rupees. He suggested it is not enough and requested minimum 900 rupees. I was told that he and other members of his family are official workers for the temple. There should be some clear policy for covering their cost!
Do not avoid the temple be sure to include it in your Chennai trip but for sure avoid the guides.

It's such a beautiful & serene place which gives an idea how cultural & art is deeply rooted in history of Chennai. If you observe carefully you can easily differentiate each temple design is unique in its craft. In India invaders had tried to erase our art & monuments & history, but Tamilnadu temples has preserved it all for you.

Offered our thanks and received all the blessings. The breeze, the music and the divine atmosphere is all a blessing. The temple was maintained perfectly well and clean. Parking was a mess here and fortunately we got a spot to park. Only 15 cars can be parked. So you better park somewhere and walk to the temple.
