The Rajabai Tower is a clock tower in South Mumbai India. It is in the confines of the Fort campus of the University of Mumbai. It stands at a height of 85 m. The tower is part of The Victorian and Art Deco Ensemble of Mumbai, which was added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 2018.

The 142-year-old Rajabai Clock Tower in South Mumbai’s Fort area, located inside University of Mumbai’s campus, is iconic for its Victorian-Gothic architecture. Built in 1878 by architect Sir George Gilbert Scott, it was commissioned by businessman Premchand Roychand as a tribute to his mother, hence the name. For years, it was the city’s tallest structure, at 285 feet.

Rajabai Clock Tower has long been a beacon of the Oval Maidan precinct, a visual delight, and a valuable piece of history for the city. After years of darkness, the Rajabai Clock Tower finally glowed up in 2021, literally.

Rajabai Clock Tower is an 85-metre tall tower in the Fort Campus of the University of Mumbai. Premchand Roychand, a businessman and a stockbroker, financed its construction. And Sir George Gilbert Scott designed it.

The tower resembles London’s Big Ben, and it is among the tallest structures in the area. It chimes every fifteen minutes. The construction began in 1869, and it was completed by 1878.

The access to the inside of the tower is closed to visitors, but you can admire the architecture and detailed stonework from outside. The tower has one of the best stained-glass works in the city. And the architecture is a blend of Venetian-Gothic style. The tower also has 24 small statues, portraying the life of common people during the British rule.
