Headquarters of Kerala State Forests and Wildlife Department. Top officers of the department known Chief Conservator of Forests, Chief Wildlife Warden and department head known as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests functions at this campus. They administer the department through sub offices . There hirearchy of offices are headquarters headed by Indian Forest Service Kerala cadre officers mainly CCFs,then comes Divisional Forest Office rs ( DFOs), below them Forest Range Officers, below them Forest Stations and forest check posts. Below chief wildlife warden there are Assistant Wildlife Warden who looks after national parks which are ecologically sensitive important sections of forests. HQ controls the transfer and postings of officers from range officer onwards. The forest range officers aka rangers enforce forest and wildlife Act. They can book offenders like poachers and sandalwood smugglers. Most of the offences under forests and Wildlife Act are non bailable which entail heavy punishments. Felling of trees,killing or endangering wild animals ,dealing with their sale are offenses. Even mere pocession of endangered/protected species could land you in prison. So be careful when you visit any forest area.
