One of the finest art gallery ever seen. Front look of the building is maintained but original building at back side in poor condition. Some part of the building is renovated nicely. Cleanliness is maintained. Thousands of cores worth monuments, artifacts and original paintings are exhibited. Unfortunately inside of the gallery no photography allowed. Very few visitors visit this place. There is nominal ticket you need to purchase. If you are art lover or artist this is like treasure for you. Must visit place...

Sad to see the demise of what was a great palace. From the outside the vegetation is overgrown. After leaving footwear by the door there is a promising start with a microscopic view of three grains of rice.
However the ground floor disappoints with poorly lit works of art that clearly require some effective restoration. There is a chunk of positivity when one of the staff showed me a position to view one of the portraits whose foot and eyes followed you around the room. The highlight of the ground floor was the incredible painting of the Mysore Palace in all its glory.
The second floor was a much better improvement with some incredible artwork and ornaments which once again is not illuminated to show of the true craftsmanship. Perhaps employing a cleaner would be a good start to remove the layers of fingerprints that obscure clarity of many of the objects.
The more contemporary pieces of artwork are incredible in both their vibrancy and colours. The separate setting for the "Glow of Hope" is perfect.
Finally the third floor offers not only some incredible musical instruments. It also has a room covered with an incredible fresco punctuated with vibrant colours that make the visit worthwhile.

This is my favorite place in Mysore. After the burning down of the Mysore palace, the royal family used to live here for a few years. Here are famous paintings of famous painters of India. Some painting are by foreign artists aslo. Here is the National Award winning picture titled 'light of hope'. Many paintings look different if viewed from different angles. Apart from this, there is a music room with instruments from all over the world. This is a three storey building.
Besides, there are unique items made from ivory, silver, porcelain, bronze, crocodile skin, etc which was used by royal family. If you are interested in art and history then don't visit this palace without a guide. 50/- is the ticket. The museum is open from 8.30 am to 5 pm.
